Roaster's Reserve: Ethiopia Kochere Banco Gotete

Please notify me when this product is available:

This exceptional lot of coffee comes from the micro-region of Kochere in the Yirgacheffe region of Sidamo, Ethiopia. An amazing array of of fruit, vanilla & floral notes, this lot is fully washed before being dried on African beds.

Each smallholder farm owns approximately 1/2 hectare or less of coffee growing land, which is shade grown by 'false-banana' trees. Carefully hand-picked by each individual farmer and her/his family at peak ripeness helps to ensure the incredible quality of the coffee.

Changes occurring within the Ethiopian Coffee Exchange are making it ever-so-slightly less cumbersome to trace coffees back to their exact varietal. While this will continue to be a work in progress, the research done thus far shows there may be JARC (Jimma Agricultural Research Center) '74 varietals within this lot of "Heirloom" coffee. Heirloom coffee gets its name from the process of handing the plants down from one generation to the next, basically a catch-all phrase. Genetic analysis of the coffee samples helps determine the exact strain, and this work, while early, is getting more visibility and priority.
